Chimney Cleaning and Inspections

The experts at Advanced Chimney Sweep will clean and inspect your chimney from top to bottom to ensure each component is safe for use. Our cleaning process uses a variety of tools to get the job done from both the inside of the fireplace as well as from the top of the chimney. We lay white tarps in front of the fireplace to protect the floor and carpet and use a dual filtered HEPA vacuum to ensure no dust leaves the fireplace and enters the room. Specialty brushes and rods are used that are tailored just for a particular sized flue to remove the dangerous creosote and soot. Both visual and video camera inspections can be performed to ensure the entire system is inspected and safe. We inspect area of the chimney to include the firebox, the damper, the smoke chamber, the lining, and the crown or chase area on top of the chimney. We will also inspect the exterior brick or siding of the chimney. If for some reason a problem is found, we will provide pictures of the problem, recommend the best course of action to correct it and provide you with a fully documented inspection report. We have a no mess – 100% satisfaction guarantee on all of our services.

Caps

A chimney without a cap is like a home without a roof. Chimney caps provide a number of benefits. They keep the rain and sun out of the inside of the chimney that can deteriorate and degrade the lining or flue. The screen on the cap acts as a spark arrester as well as keeps animals and debris from going in the chimney and possibly causing a dangerous blockage. Chimney caps come in a variety of sizes depending on the size flue and mounting configuration. They are made from either galvanized or stainless steel and will be an investment for years to come by protecting your chimney.

Crown Repairs

A chimney crown is a concrete mortar cap on top of the chimney that seals the chimney’s flue to the chimney brick. The crown is sloped and prevents water damage from rain that seeps down into the masonry or into the joint between the masonry and the chimney flue. Over time, the crown mortar will expand and contract with the change in seasonal temperature, causing it to crack. Simple cracks can lead to possible water damage in several areas including where the fireplace/chimney meets the ceiling. Our skilled technicians at Advanced Chimney Sweep use an elastomeric coating that forms a flexible waterproof membrane to repair and protect chimney crowns against water intrusion. This repair will provide years of protection and prevent further deterioration of your chimney, saving you money on expensive mortar replacement.

Chase Cover Repair & Replacement

Chase covers are metal caps on top of prefab or factory-built type chimneys. These covers are usually made of a galvanized metal and if not properly installed, can hold rain water and eventually rust. This will lead to holes in the chase cover that will result in rain water leaking into the fireplace area. The leaking water will cause extensive damage to the firebox and surrounding frame, costing thousands to repair. Our technicians are trained to spot possible these problems and in most cases, can prevent future expensive repairs. Surface rust can be removed from the chase cover if caught in time and coated with a special zinc coating that will extend the life of the chase cover. In extreme instances, the chase cover will need to be replaced to prevent further damage to the inside of the fireplace and home. Our technicians can provide you with an honest estimate for the replacement of the chase cover if needed.

Waterproofing

Because chimneys project above the roof line, they are exposed to more severe weather than any other part of your home. Most masonry materials that chimneys are constructed from are porous and will absorb water. The bricks in a chimney can act like a sponge by absorbing water as it rains and passing or “wicking” it to the interior of the chimney. Common signs of wicking includes water dripping from inside the chimney or the flue tile “sweating” and running down the flue. This can also lead to further deterioration of the chimney or causing water damage to the ceiling that comes in contact with the fireplace. Our technicians use a waterproofing product that is 100% vapor permeable that allows the chimney to breathe. This allows for the water vapers produced during use to escape while the waterproofing agents prevent water from entering from the exterior.

Damper Replacement

Whether you have a traditional style damper plate that needs to be replaced due to deterioration, or your home requires a top mounted style damper, we’ve got you covered!! We keep damper plates readily available on our service trucks ready to install if needed. If your home does not have an existing damper casing for a traditional style damper, we can install a top mounted type damper that actually mounts to the top of the chimney and is easily operated from the fireplace. When the fireplace is not in use, the damper prevents heating and cooling loss, saving you money on your energy bill. Ask us about your damper…..we will be more than happy to explain and show you what you should know.
